An attempt to launch LDAP Administrator ends up displaying the “Failed to create object” message.
CAUSE
There may be a few things that cause the “Failed to create object” problem to appear, with the most common ones being as follows:
- The application’s configuration file is damaged.
- An old MS XML 4 run-time is installed.
- The system security provider database is damaged.
- Try removing the application’s configuration file. The configuration is stored on a per-user basis, which particularly means that every system user has its own LDAP Administrator configuration folder [1]. The %LOGINGUSERNAME% is a placeholder for the name one uses to log on to the system. Open the configuration folder and remove the metabase.stg file from it. Try restarting the application. If the error persists, go to the next step.
- Download, unpack and run our MSXML 4 test application [2]. If the application still reports errors, visit the Microsoft download site [3] and download MSXML 4 SP2. Restart the application. If the error persists, go to the next step.
- In some cases systems may have their security provider database damaged due to reasons described in [4]. Try following the steps set forth therein.
