I need to find an easy way for a couple users to run a simple query, then update a single value in each of the items in the extract, then save those changes in the LDAP. They're actually retrieving a list of users to be approved, setting the user status field to 'approved' in the LDAP. So it's the same thing for the administrators, day after day. They would like something easier to use.

I can write a batch job to run a laimex query to extract the list of users to be approved into a file, then open the file in Excel. After the users have been approved, we can save the file. And then the real question: is there a way to have laimex read that file and updata a value for an existing row rather than import or append a whole row?

An external SQL interface following the laimex model would be great for this

Any thoughts or ideas will be appreciated...

At the moment you can use only LDIF or DSMLv2 documents to run modify requests. For more information refer to the document descriptions:

Figured out the LDIF query no problem.

Will laimex support a SSL connection to the LDAP? I don't see an option for it in the argument list. If not, any other solutions?
