The file format known as LDIF (LDAP Data Interchange Format) is a standard plain text data interchange format for representing LDAP directory content or modifications made to directory content. It is typically used to import and export directory information between LDAP-based directory servers, or to describe a set of changes which are to be applied to a directory.
LDAP Administrator provides users with an embedded text editor for LDIF documents - LDIF Editor. LDIF Editor has many helpful features such as syntax coloring based on LDIF file format, outlining, IntelliSense, etc. introduced to simplify the process of viewing and editing LDIF files.
Since the information contained in LDIF documents has a hierarchical structure, LDAP Administrator gives you a possibility to represent LDIF documents in tree view. In this case, the entries described in LDIF documents are represented in form of a DIT (Directory Information Tree) as if they are physically located on the server, and you can work with them as you work with directory data.
