Creating and Modifying Reports

LDAP Administrator offers more than 40 predefined reports. However sometimes a predefined report may be not exactly what you need and you want to adjust it, or you want to have your own custom report(s) for your specific needs. In this case, you can either modify an existing report or create a new one.

All predefined reports are stored in the Reports folder located in the LDAP Administrator root folder. Reports are described using an XML format. The structure of a report XML file is defined in the Report.xsd schema file located the same folder.

To author a new report you need to create an XML file and define all report elements, that describe the way the report works. Report elements should be defined according to the report schema file (Report.xsd). We recommend you to use an XML - enabled editor with XSD support to benefit from Intellisence and report elements comments.

Adding New Reports

LDAP Administrator stores report files in the Reports folder located under the LDAP Administrator root folder. If you want to make a new report available for the application, you need to put this report file to the Reports folder. If LDAP Administrator is already running, select Reload Reports from the Report menu to make the report visible to the application.

Report Warnings, Errors and Troubleshooting

If some problems are encountered when loading or parsing the report document, one or more warnings or error messages containing the description of the problem will be displayed in the Output Bar. Warnings are not critical problems and do not prevent the report from being executed. On the contrary, errors indicate serious problems which don’t allow launching the report. A report containing errors is marked with icon in the Reports menu. To repair a problematic report, view the error and warning messages in the Output Bar and fix problems in the file. As soon as all problems are fixed, use Reload Reports to refresh the Reports menu list.
